Also since it lacks the population of its surrounding countries it lacks a lot of the industrialization in these countries and imports a fair share of its goods. In general its best t to find out where the Locals go to do their shopping if you want to avoid paying higher prices. I live on an island in the Gulf of Honduras and have visited most of the Central American countries including Belize. Compared to many of the other tourist destinations in the Western Caribbean and Central America, Belize is quite expensive. I found that anything a visitor may be paying for, restaurants, hotels, rental cars, tours, rent, even souvenirs, are priced higher than you will find in most of the neighboring vacation spots.
