I believe that Belize is one of a few, if not the only, country in Central America that was colonized by England. Therefore much of their government is based on English law.

Because Belize, unlike the other Central American countries, was colonized by Britain. Belize(formerly known as British Honduras) became independent in 1981.English is the official language, and Belize(with the exception of Costa Rica) hasn’t been plagued by military coups, dictatorships, or civil wars like so much of Central America has been at one time or another.
