According to UNdata, Guatemala had 1,628,000 visitors in 2007, Belize only 256,000.
The second link below reports in 2005 Guatemala had $883Million in tourism receipts while Belize had only $204Million.
Yeah, tourism always means more money for a country.

Belize. In fact Belize has done a lot to become a tourist desitnation and most of the country is still undeveloped for agriculture. Still if you are going out into the remote areas you need to hire state police to escort you.
One of my college friends was from Belize and he grew up as a guide in a nature park/zoo.
For the most part, tourism is very good for a country since it brings in a lot of money. In economics, tourism is considered an export since money is coming into the country. One problem with tourism is when corporations buy a chunk of land on the ocean and then pay the workers a very small wage. When hotels, restaurants and other services are locally owned, much more of the money stays in the country. Some local folks do not like tourism since it can raise the price of some foods and some tourists are not respectful of the local population.
About 25% of the GNP in the Dominican Republic comes from tourism and its economy has done very well with it. A typical tourist spends over $100/day which is not much less that what people make in a month working full time.

Guatemala. Do you know the size of Guatemala compared to Belize? Do you know how much money Guatemala has invested in the airport?
And with access to the Pacific and Caribbean coasts, and Mayan ruins.
That’s why more tourist visit Guatemala each year.
