What Would Be A Better Trip: Belize, Puerto Rico, Or Costa Rica?
My parents want to do a joint 60th birthday abroad and Belize, Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica are on their list. Belize sounds good because people speak English, Puerto Rico because it’s American, and Costa Rica because a lot of people say it’s cool down there. They’d like to find a balance between comfort and trying something new and somewhat adventuresome. I would prefer responses from people who have actually traveled to these places. Thanks.
I have been to both Belize and Costa Rica. Both would be good choices for the reasons you listed above. Both are mostly english speaking, have really good food, and friendly people. Belize was my favorite though.
In Belize, San Ignacio is a nice town inland, and there are lots of tours to take, Mayan ruins to see, etc. I stayed at the Maya Mountain Lodge and really enjoyed it. If they like the island thing, Caye Caulker is really laid back, and fun to visit, good snorkeling.
I have not been to Costa or Belize but both have certain factors that desirable from what I have researched. I would not recommend Puerto Rico because for me, it simply did not have that small islandy feel to it. It was very metropolitan.
As an alternative I would like to suggest the following:
The Riviera Maya, Mexico
All inclusive resort: Iberostar, Maya (includes flight, five star resort, drinks, food, watersports, live shows and virtually everything needed)
Things to do while there: The snorkelling is fantastic both off the beach itself and at short trip destinations such as Xel Ha and Yal Ku Lagoon in Akumal.
There is also a cave bar restaurant in town that has both stellagtites and stellagmites and waterfalls….along with natural stone furnishings and crystal chandeliers. It is made in an ACTUAL underground cave.
I have been to all of those places. Belize has great cave tubing where u r on tubes and ride through quarter mile and longer caves. Puerto Rico is good because they have tere beaches but when i went it was kinda scary at night but they have great shopping there. Costa Rica has Horse back riding on the beach and the beach is pure white and u dont see a single person the whole trip because it is a private beach. So they are all good in there different ways. but u also might want to think about Cozmel Mexico. They have the most Beautiful water there is and u can go snorkeling and the fish will come right up close to u and u can see old ships wrecks and stuff i loved it. also if you go into town there there is a beach where u can go kayaking and jet skiing and then there is also tons of shopping by the beach, and there is a place to swim with the dolphins in cozmel too.
A better trip would be COSTA RICA because the climate is perfect it’s warm but like Mexico or panama and it is the most civilized out all the countries in Central America.

It is so cool and fun down there!!
You can swing through the jungle, go to places where you can play with animals, and soooo much more!

Costa Rica is prettier and is less dangerous, Although you don’t need a passport to go to Puerto Rico
