Guatemala Or Belize? Which Is Better For A Short Trip?
I am a female taking a small vacation first going to the Dominican Republic, then going to either Belize or Guatemala. I have a friend in Guatemala city, but there is no guarantee that she will be around. I love to scuba dive, snorkel, rainforests, nature in general. Which place is better for me? Or is it easy to get to either one by bus? I speak only English and French and will be traveling alone for 2 weeks.
Yes it is very easy to get around belize and guatemal by bus…Belize offers great diving and snorkeling on the cays (i like cay caulker) and the water taxis make it easy to get to…if in guatemala you must visit tikal ,,,mayan temples…rainforests…monkeys swinging through the trees…it is GREAT wish i was going with you…have fun
The rain forests and nature are more to be found in Guatemala and it is generally less expensive there, but for a short visit Belize has more to offer. The scuba diving is fantastic, most of the people speak english, the infrastructure is far ahead of that of Guatemala. You can travel both countries easily and inexpensively by bus. Of course you can’t take a bus from the Dominican Republic.
Scuba diving and snorkeling is definitely better in Belze. But Guatemala is prettier, it is poo hell hole but there is a lot to do and the country is really beautifull and the weather is perfect..

Given the info and conditions you state, I definitely vote: Belize.
I agree wholeheartedly with the first three suggestions/replies, with the exception of derogatory adjectives for Guatemala.
Both are great choices.
Scuba, snorkeling, cayes, Caribbean sea, multilingual, safer, small, cave tubing, more expensive = Belize
Volcanoes, mountains, white water rafting, volcanic sand beaches, lakes, cultures, Spanish, cheaper = Guatemala
Rainforest, spelunking, fauna, flora, Mayan ruins, archeological sites, national parks = both (Guatemala & Belize)
